Social Responsibility Grounded in Human Dignity and Real Control

Squares 9 approaches social responsibility by protecting members, strengthening digital rights, and building a platform where people retain meaningful control over their social environment.

What Social Responsibility Means at Squares 9

Social responsibility at Squares 9 begins with a simple principle. Technology should serve the people who use it. That means respecting privacy, limiting exposure, reducing manipulation, and designing for member control rather than engineered engagement. Our social commitments are built into the structure of the platform itself rather than treated as marketing language placed around it.

A digital platform shapes how people relate to one another, how they are exposed to risk, and how much control they retain over their own experience. Because of that, social responsibility must address architecture, policy, and business conduct at the same time. We are working to create a digital environment that treats people as members with rights, not as targets for extraction.

Member Centered Design

Squares 9 is built to address the structural weaknesses of mainstream social networks, including privacy invasion, data exploitation, bot activity, fake engagement, and open exposure to harassment. Private invitation only Squares give members real control over who enters their digital environment. End-to-end encryption protects messages and shared content. No behavioral profiling, no tracking, and no data selling reinforce that control at the system level.

This is social responsibility expressed through design. A platform cannot claim to protect people while engineering a system that exposes them by default.

A Global and Equitable Workforce

Squares 9 is committed to building a workforce that reflects fairness, opportunity, and respect. That includes equitable treatment, professional development, and meaningful opportunity across a distributed global organization. A responsible company should create value not only for its members, but also for the people contributing to its growth.

We believe a stronger workforce produces a stronger company culture, and a stronger culture produces better judgment across the platform itself.

Digital Rights at Global Scale

Squares 9 supports the broader principle that privacy is a fundamental human right in the modern world. As the company grows internationally, that commitment remains central. We are not interested in expanding by abandoning the standards that define the platform. The goal is responsible scale, not diluted principle.

Ethical social media should not be reserved for a narrow segment of the world. It should be built in a way that respects cultural difference while preserving core protections for the individual.

Community Support and Public Benefit

Squares 9 extends its social commitments beyond the platform through initiatives such as Square the Earth, which dedicates a portion of advertising visibility to environmental, health, and human rights organizations. This reflects a broader view of responsibility. A platform can be commercially viable while still directing attention toward work that strengthens society.

We want the company to contribute to public good in ways that are concrete, visible, and consistent with its operating values.

Digital Experience by Design

Social responsibility also includes the way technology affects daily life. Squares 9 is designed to reduce overexposure, information overload, and unwanted intrusion. We favor intentional interaction over constant interruption. A better-designed digital environment is not created by warning people after the fact. It is created by designing the system differently from the beginning.

The aim is not simply to reduce the friction of an existing model. The aim is to build a platform that supports a better long term relationship between people, attention, and technology.
