Three Decades of Security Infrastructure. One Platform Built to Protect the People Using It.
John Halotek
John Halotek, Founder and Chief Executive Officer
How Three Decades in Government Identification Systems and International-Scale Security Infrastructure Shaped the Security-First Architecture of Squares 9
John Halotek has spent more than three decades working on complex government identification systems at an international scale. In those environments, disciplined thinking around threat vectors, exposure, and system vulnerability is not optional — it is the foundation everything else is built on. That discipline is what he carries into Squares 9 Corporation, and it shapes every decision made at the platform level.
As Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Halotek approaches social media through the same lens he applied to government-scale security work: understand the threat environment first, design the structural response to it, and build the experience on top of that foundation. The result is a platform that treats security not as a feature, but as the architecture itself.
Every Major Advance in Technology Creates a Corresponding Evolution in Risk
From Physical Threat Vectors to Global Digital Crime: How the Convergence of Artificial Intelligence and Social Media Exposure Revealed a Structural Gap Legacy Platforms Cannot Close
Halotek watched the threat landscape shift in real time. Early in his career, the dominant risks were physical and localized, contained by geography and limited by proximity. The introduction of the internet changed the equation completely. Digital crime emerged gradually and then scaled rapidly. Data became the primary target. What once required physical access could now be executed remotely, anonymously, and at global reach. Personal information that had once been relatively contained began to exist within open, connected systems where aggregation and exploitation became increasingly accessible.
By the mid-2010s, Halotek began tracking the rapid development of artificial intelligence. What started as experimental systems evolved into practical tools capable of analysis, prediction, and automated decision making at unprecedented scale. The risk was not theoretical. Personal data, already widely exposed across existing social platforms, was now positioned in environments where increasingly capable AI could interpret it, model it, and act on it in ways earlier systems could not.
For a risk professional trained to think in structural terms, the convergence was unmistakable. The internet redefined access. Artificial intelligence is redefining interpretation and exploitation. At the same time, dominant social media platforms, built primarily for engagement, were not designed to operate under these conditions. In August 2024, Halotek made the decision to step away from three decades of government-scale security work and founded Squares 9 Corporation.
He did not leave to build another social application. He left because he identified a structural gap that could not be addressed through incremental change. Traditional platforms were engineered for maximum connectivity and continuous data flow. Protection, when present, was often applied after the fact rather than built into the system itself. Halotek understood that approach would not hold under the increasing capabilities of artificial intelligence, and he chose a different path.
That path began with a single governing question: what would a social platform look like if the primary design constraint was not engagement, revenue, or growth, but the structural protection of every person using it? The answer to that question is Squares 9.
Squares 9: A Security-First, Closed-Loop Social Media Platform Built From the Ground Up
Exposure Reduction, Trust Boundary Enforcement, Invitation-Only Access, and End-to-End Encryption Built Into the Structure From the Start
Squares 9 was designed from the first line of code as a protected, closed-loop platform. There is no public feed, no open discovery, and no external visibility into member activity. Interaction takes place exclusively within private, invitation-only environments known as Squares, where each member defines access, context, and participation. Every message, image, and piece of shared content is protected by end-to-end encryption, and the system is structured to limit unnecessary data exposure while maintaining performance and reliability.
Halotek’s principle is unchanged after three decades in the security field: protecting people is the right thing to do. Platforms that shape how individuals connect carry a unique responsibility. As artificial intelligence continues to expand capability at a pace that outstrips public understanding, that responsibility becomes fundamental to system design.
Squares 9 is his answer to that responsibility. It is built by someone who has spent a lifetime studying how risk evolves alongside technology and who chose this moment to act. A secure system first. Social connection built on top of that foundation. Protection engineered into the structure from the beginning. That is the disciplined, security-hardened worldview of John Halotek.
